Thailand's largest island is home to sun drenched beaches overlooked by the impressive Phuket mountain range, whilst nestling in the glimmering blue waters of the Andaman Sea. Attracting visitors' worldwide, it is home to a range of luxury Phuket hotels, offering top class facilities to satisfy even the most discerning of guests. After a day in Thailand's blazing sun, entering air conditioned luxury Phuket hotels, relaxing by a pool or enjoying a pre-dinner drink on the terrace overlooking the picturesque views will ensure all who visit this island will have a holiday to remember.

With a tropical climate and magnificent beaches, many travel here to take advantage of the natural facilities on offer. The beaches are varied, offering the choice between popular and busy resorts to quiet secluded areas, away from the crowds. Patong beach is amongst the most developed and is known for its excellent night life. Karon and Karon Noi beaches are also popular with good facilities on offer for holiday makers. For those seeking a more exclusive experience, Mai Khao is off the beaten track and hence the tourists and is home to some classy resort areas. Around here you will also find pretty Thai villages and excellent restaurants, luxury Phuket hotels and authentic temples.

Other beaches of note are the beautiful Banana beach which although has good facilities, is quiet and home to marine and birdlife. Between the noted Kamal and Surin beaches can be found Laem Sing, which offers stunning views. There are also great views from the View Point between Nai Han and Kata beaches. The Phromtep Cape also offers good views across Phuket's many islands.

Phuket's other attractions include the Two heroines Monument, a memorial for the two heroes who organized a rebellion against the Burmese invaders in 1785. The monument is found in Phuket Town, as is Thalang national Museum, home to an interesting exhibition of old Phuket life. The Old Town itself is an attractive town, bustling with atmosphere and ornate buildings, shrines and temples. Many architectural gems have been exquisitely preserved in their former glory to the tin ore days that brought riches to the town. Stroll down Thalang Road to enjoy the Sino-Portuguese (or Sino-colonial) shop fronts, which stretch back much further than their fronts might suggest. The little back lane of Soi Romani was once a red light district for the laborers who worked the tin mines. The Amulet market is also worth a visit, as is Jui Tui Shrine and the Shrine of the Serene Light. The Suriyadate Fountain is an interesting feature which uses old water cannons from the mining days, now used to spurt out cascades of water for pleasure.

Island hopping is a favorite pastime and Rawai, Mittraphap and Laen ka are good places to set off for a tour. There are several dozen islands to choose from, some offering luxury Phuket hotels and some just suitable for a day trip. Scenery is spectacular on the islands, with delightful beaches and great snorkeling. For others, it an excuse to get away from it all and relax on the golden sands.

Water sports are a major attraction of the area and no wonder, with all year sunshine and warm clear waters. Amongst the most popular sports are scuba diving, snorkeling, parasailing, jet skiing and yachting. There are plenty of quality operators to help you get started and enjoy all the water sports on offer.

For those with families the attractions are many. The crocodile farm allows you the opportunity to watch crocs and alligators at close hand, in a safe environment and Phuket Aquarium at Cape Panwa offers fish and corals galore. There is a Butterfly Farm and FantaSea is considered to be the Disneyland of South East Asia... For those who love natural wonders the mountains offer incredible views and are home to several Nature Parks and home to the biggest waterfalls in Thailand. The Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Conservation Development and Extension Center actively studies and protects the environment and wildlife. Turtles laying eggs on Nai Yang beach come under the protective jurisdiction of Sirinat National Park.

This large and beautiful island has something to offer all ages, with great night life, water sports and beaches, but also small quiet resorts for those wishing for tranquility. With stunning views and climate, this is an island many return to year after year.
